Every garment we sell we plant a native grass, shrub or tree. So far we have planted over 40,000 plants and we don't intend to stop there!
We are proud to be actively giving back to the environment and it's so very important to us to sustain an environment for our childrens' children to enjoy.
Apart from feeling good about getting our hands dirty we also love to get involved with our local planting community. We have an inkling you might enjoy doing some planting too (we know most of you get your hands dirty as your day job, but this won't be work, it'll be fun!).
Green Hip will be facilitating some planting days in co-ordination with The Tree Project. If you are a member of our newsletters you will receive information about our planting days so we can help you do your bit for the environment. We have the human power to make a difference!
Creative force behind Green Hip
Green Hip was born out of the sheer frustration and desperate need to provide women with work clothing that expresses their sense of worth and enhances their sense of identity. Since 2010 the idea has grown from a few items to an ever expanding range. Liv Thwaites is the owner and Creator of Green Hip who has passionately designed the fabric and styles with more new designs in the making. Liv loves the outdoors and was destined to work in an occupation that incorporated nature. At 18 she chose Horticulture and moved from the country to Melbourne to work as an apprentice Gardener. As a tradie lady she quickly discovered the work clothes issued to her by her workplace were inappropriate and uncomfortable. Sure, she grew up with two older brothers and wore their hand-me-downs but at 18, Liv didn't want to wear men's clothing at her workplace, it just didn't feel right.
Clothing is a form of identity - often it is worn as a badge of honour to shout out "I belong 'here'!" It is a visual validation of a person's sense of identity. The outward expression of their sense of worth; of how they see themselves fitting into society. This ongoing experience had an ever lasting effect on Liv and while working in the gardens with her colleagues it was a conversation that didn't go away, the workwear brands were not paying attention to women. Through extensive research and years of product development Liv has been determine to represent women of all shapes and sizes to help them feel great while at work and this is just the beginning, there are more exciting styles coming your way!
From the blog
Janae Paquin-Bowden lives in a beautiful part of the country called Lyonville, located only 15 minutes west of Daylesford, Victoria, amongst the rolling hills and Australian bush. Janae grew up in Bendigo surrounded by horticulture; her Mum and Dad own a landscaping business and they are both native plant gurus, and they are developing a native plant nursery. To say horticulture was in Janae’s veins would be an understatement. When she graduated high school, Janae decided to study the Arts, majoring in ceramics, followed by a diploma of education. Little did she know she would one day own her own micro flower farm.

Hello Gorgeous Green Hip Tribe, I’m Kristy!
I live in the lovely seaside town of Victor Harbor, SA with my beautiful family. It’s also where I run my little business CHARLIE & JACK (an Indoor plant & gift store).
I was born in Melbourne and moved to Gellibrand in the Otway Ranges when I was 14, right near my beautiful Cous Liv!
In hindsight, I can see what a positive life change that was for me, being surrounded by wildlife, nature and family....
