GREEN HIP COMMUNITY: GREENHILL LIVING

Over the years as Green Hip has grown and evolved as a clothing brand Greenhill Living has also grown and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have the privilege of being involved with Rebecca’s amazing work. If you haven’t heard about Green Hill living before, it is a must-see for all interested in educating the younger generation about “planting a seed and growing nature’s magic” (Greenhill Living).

Rebecca Mumford planted the Greenhill Living seed in 2010.  Following a conversation with her twin sister of Planted Life (promoting a plant based diet), Rebecca had a vision, “a way to encourage people to eat more plants is to inspire them to grow plants”. With this vision Greenhill Living started to grow.

With a passion to inspire our future young farmers to grow food, Rebecca has planted the seed with up to 20 preschools and primary schools across Adelaide, keeping the food alive, in their gardens and in the minds of the students, during all of the seasons of the year.

Greenhill Living offers a curriculum linked Food Garden Program, educating childcare, preschool and primary school students about how food grows. The program includes self-published books, The Garden Gang, Gary the Garden Guy, Pete the Planting Pal and Faye the Farmer Friend with Gaye the Garden Girl, written to engage the minds of our future young farmers.

The two book series, illustrates the life cycle of various vegetables, pests and beneficial insects in the garden, highlight the seasons of the year, the importance of healthy soil, how to plant and help plants survive and thrive in the food garden.

The Greenhill Living Food Garden Program includes interactive reading sessions followed by seasonal planting in the food garden.  The full year program includes all 8 books and a connection to the life in the food garden through the seasons, summer, autumn, winter and spring.

2017 will see the introduction of native Australian food to the food garden program with the launch of Bill the Bush Tucker Boy, illustrating foods native to countries all around the world growing together in harmony with Australian native bush tucker.

Rebecca and her work is inspirational and gives us hope for the continuation of inspiring the future generations in the importance of horticulture and the importance of farms who grow our food.
